The Miami Heat earned their first three game winning streak of the season after a hard fought 106-98 victory over the division rival Atlanta Hawks on the road. Bam Adebayo had another huge night, scoring 32 points amd helping the team snap a seven game road losing streak.
For the second game in a row, Bam has been on another level and has been as aggressive as we've ever seen on the offensive side of the ball. His finishing around the rim has been nothing short of perfection and he's starting to figure out how he can be successful on a nightly basis. The Heat are also doing an extremely good job of getting him to his spots. Both Kyle Lowry (9 assists) and Tyler Herro (10 assists) were making sure to get the ball to the big man whenever they could and he was making it happen every time. Bam finished the game with 32 points on 13-of-20 shooting and 6-of-6 from the free throw line, eight rebounds, one assist and one block. It's been frustrating at times watching Bam's development into a scorer, but watching him play at this level makes it all worth it.
Another big development this season has been the emergence of Caleb Martin. He has now scored 20+ points in three straight games and continues to be a rock for Miami.. His bag on the offensive end is expanding and his ball handling has allowed him to take defenders off the dribble and create offense for himself and others. You pair that with his already strong defense and you have a player any team in the league can use. He scored 20 points on an efficient 8-of-12 shooting and 2-of-3 from deep, nine rebounds, four assists, two steals, one incredible block and one turnover. The concerns about him replacing PJ Tucker on the roster should have been long gone a while ago, but this recent stretch of play should be enough to convince even the most casual fan.
Lowry and Herro struggled to shoot the ball for the second straight night combining to shoot 5-of-22, but they were still able to have a huge impact on this game. Herro recorded the first triple double of his career with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Atlanta was making a concerted effort to get the ball out of Herro's hands on pick and rolls and he was content on making the right read every time. It's good to know that even when his shot isn't falling Herro is able to impact the game in other ways. Lowry was doing a great job of settling the offense as well as being a pest on the defensive end. He had nine points, nine assists, three rebounds, two steals and one block. It's noticeable that the heavy workload over the first month and a half of the season has started to take a toll on him and if the team was healthier I wouldn't be surprised if he sits a game like this.
It was nice to see Max Strus out there and he had it going early with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from three in the first half. Though he couldn't replicate the hot shooting he was on the floor when Miami made that big run in the third quarter and the gravity he has on the floor has a lot to do with it. Got to give it to Dewayne Dedmon as well, who finished with 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting and six rebounds. Despite all the hate he receives for his play, Dedmon has given Miami some strong backup center minutes. The Mechanic is never shy to pull out a move from his tool box and you never know what it will be. Haywood Highsmith (23 min) and Dru Smith (20 min) gave Miami some solid minutes off the bench as well.
The Miami Heat will now be heading north to take on the top seeded Boston Celtics at TD Garden on November 30th at 7:30 PM EST. This will be a big test for Miami as they are playing some of the best basketball of the season heading into this matchup. There are rumors that Jimmy Butler will be back for the game on Wednesday, so it appears Miami is getting healthier at the perfect moment.
