Inter Miami have been able to put together strong performances over the past five games. So with the Herons back home, it gives them a chance to get over their latest loss in New York and come back even better against Chicago.

From the kickoff, the Chicago Fire were clicking on all cylinders and were controlling the majority of the first half. They looked like the better team, and the defense of Inter Miami were just not performing to the level we’ve seen over this recent stretch. Leandro Gonzalez-Pirez struggled to find the touch he had in the game against New York as he couldn’t find Lewis Morgan accurately on multiple attempts.

Which brings me to the offense, which was almost non existent until the Herons were able to find some space on the counter attack. Gonzalo Higuain was found in the middle of the pitch by Lewis Morgan while Robbie Robinson was making a wide open run on the left wing. Higuain delivered the pass and Robinson took a shot on goal and it was saved by Fire goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth. Then came Indiana Vasilev with the smart run and getting into the perfect spot to tap in a goal in his first start and second goal of the season to make it 1-0 in the 34’.

It was a great answer to the pressure the Chicago Fire were placing on Inter Miami and was perfectly executed. Unfortunately, the Fire answered right back and were able to score off a corner as Francisco Calvo rifled a header just passed Nick Marsman to tie it up at 1-1 in the 40’.

When it reached halftime the score was leveled at one a piece and both teams headed into the locker room with positives and negatives to look at. Inter Miami allowed Chicago to get too comfortable in their own half and it is why they were able to control the majority of the first 45 minutes.

The start of the second half was a lot of the same as the Chicago Fire pressure forced multiple mistakes by the Herons. The first was costly as Blaise Matuidi committed a turnover in the Herons half and allowed Chicago to get right into a counter attack which found Stanislav Ivanov in the box and he delivered a pinpoint pass to Luka Stojanovic who smashed it into the back of the net to make it 2-1 in the 48’. Plus, Leandro Gonzalez-Pirez picked up a yellow card shortly after when he prevented a counter attack with a pull on Stojanovic, who was eyeing his second goal of the game.

Thankfully, Inter Miami were able to get their heads in the game as Gonzalez-Pirez found Higuian making a run towards the box, he then cuts it back to Robinson and he makes a quick decision to shoot it over the keeper to tie it up at 2-2 in the 62’.

Inter Miami keeps their foot on the gas pedal and created a few more chances for themselves in the final 30 minutes of the game. Higuain had a perfect chance to score the winner in the 87’, but he couldn’t keep his shot down as it sailed over the bar.

As the stoppage time was ticking away, Inter Miami were able to put together some late attacking magic, which has been their calling card. Higuain finds Victor Ulloa just outside the box and he controls it perfectly to deliver a solid pass to Rodolfo Pizarro, which he one times into the back of the net for the game winner to make it 3-2 in the 90+3’.

A was a miracle comeback that didn’t quite feel like miracle with this club playing the way it has of late. There is a new sense of confidence in this team that they will find a way to figure it out and come out on top and lately they haven’t given us any reason to think otherwise.

Next for Inter Miami they will be facing the worst team in the MLS in Toronto FC on August 21st at 8:00PM EST in the DRV PNK Stadium.
